Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez wants to feel important again, after a frustrating loan spell with Real Madrid.
The
27-year-old was deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford and
subsequently snapped up on loan by the Spanish giants at the start of
the season, with the option of making the move permanently.
But
Hernandez struggled to make an impact in Spain and was largely used as a
substitute, making just 12 starts in all competitions, and
he feels he
was not important there.
I learned a lot during my season at Real Madrid, it helped me find myself again as a player,' he told Spanish newspaper AS
'But I had to warm the bench a lot. It was massively frustrating because I didn't feel important.'
The
Mexican, who joined United from Chivas de Guadalajara in 2010, did
however manage to find the net nine times for Madrid, and he also bagged
nine assists last season.
One
of those goals came in the Champions League semi-final first leg
against rivals Atletico Madrid, which Real won 1-0, but it was his first
goal in the competition for 895 days.
Despite
this, the option to sign him permanently was not taken up and he will
likely spend next season on the sidelines unless United can offload
him.
Hernandez is set to take part in CONCACAF Gold Cup next month and will hope to add to his 39 goals for Mexico.
He made his international debut in 2009 and has since gone on to make another 71 appearances.
